Diego B. Anderson
Chief Executive Officer
Diego Anderson serves as our Chief Executive Officer for Lumos and NorthState. He has over 25 years of leadership experience in various operational and executive business management roles within Sprint, NTELOS, and Segra. Originally from South Carolina, Diego earned his B.S. in Electrical Engineering Technology from South Carolina State, a Masters in Administration from Central Michigan University, and a Masters in the Management of Information Technology from the University of Virginia, McIntire School of Commerce. Diego also serves as a board member for Blue Ridge Area Food Bank and Botanical Garden of the Piedmont.
David L. Smith
Chief Network Officer
David Smith is Chief Network Officer for Lumos and NorthState, leading operations, engineering, outside plant, facilities, supply chain, safety, and product marketing teams. He has over 15 years of experience in information technology and telecommunications and has held numerous business management leadership roles. Originally from Covington, VA, David holds a B.S. in Information Systems Management from Bridgewater College and an MBA from Averett University.
Mary McDermott serves as General Counsel for Lumos and NorthState, managing all legal and regulatory affairs of the company. Previously, she served as General Counsel and Secretary at Segra and as Senior Vice President of Legal and Regulatory Affairs at NTELOS. Prior positions include Senior Vice President and General Counsel at Pathnet Telecommunications, Senior Vice President and Chief of Staff for Government Relations for the Personal Communications Industry Association, and Vice President of Legal and Regulatory Affairs for the U.S. Telecom Association. Additionally, she worked in the legal departments of New England Telephone and NYNEX. Mary holds a B.A. in Political Science from West Virginia University and a J.D. from Harvard Law School.
Head of Market Development
Andy Carwile serves as Head of Market Development for Lumos and NorthState. A native of Virginia, Andy earned his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech. He has extensive experience connecting communities through high-speed internet access projects. Andy began his telecommunications career over 30 years ago as a cable installer and held various positions with United Telecom, later moving to Sprint and then to Time Warner Communications. In 1998 Andy co-founded Clarity Communications Group, a fiber company based in North Carolina serving six states. Andy has previously served Lumos as Vice President of Business Development. He and his wife are the adoptive parents of five children and reside in southern Virginia.
Heidi K. Padgett
Director of Sales
Heidi Padgett is Director of Sales and Community Services. She leads the organization in supporting new sales opportunities across residential and business segments throughout the Lumos and NorthState service areas. Heidi is originally from Bedford, VA, and has more than 20 years of telecom industry experience in customer support and sales leadership roles.
Director of Marketing
Karen Hoch serves as Director of Marketing for Lumos and NorthState. She has extensive experience as a marketing leader creating integrated programs to enhance brand loyalty and drive new business. Karen is a native of North Carolina and holds a B.S.B.A. in Business from Salem College.
Director of Customer Care
Stephanie Houghtaling leads the Care and Service Delivery teams for Lumos and NorthState. Stephanie brings a wealth of connectivity call center experience to the leadership team from her roles at Western Wireless and T-Mobile and, for the last 15 years, she has been instrumental in the success of the call center at NorthState. Stephanie calls the Piedmont Triad of NC home and holds a PMP certification, a B.A. from East Carolina University, and a master’s degree in Sociology from Georgia State University.
